Further to the earlier emails on Australian representation on the CM
Pros Board, I have submitted my nomination.
As many of you know, in addition to the stated aims, we expect CM
Pros to look after our communications tools better, allow us to do
more in Australia (more flexible Charter rules) and also address some
of the recent 'slide' in the quality of the parent organization's
deliverables to a community that now numbers more than 1,000 members.
(However with the recent failure of CM Pros to remind members to
renew, the number has probably fallen significantly) - another issue
to be addressed.
For those of you with paid membership, I would greatly appreciate
your support (vote) in February. However as there are on around 33 of
us that are active members, the likelihood of election is low, unless
my platform resonates with others and other influential members
advocate on my behalf (especially since I am not a great supporter of
the current Board's performance). If you class yourself in that
category, your stated support during the election period would also
be appreciated.
My nomination submission is as follows ...
*******
I nominate myself to run for a CM Pros Board position for 2007-2008.
Name: David Warwick
Vision and goals for serving with CM Pros ...
My objectives for serving with CM Pros are to build on the
organizations foundation and add as much momentum as possible,
including making changes that reflect the increased membership base
and growth of the organization. In essence my platform for election
is as follows ...
1) Increase the size of the CM Pros Board to reflect the
organizations growth, complexity and the amount of work that still
needs to be done. A larger elected Board would increase the
organization's capacity, transfer of knowledge, advocacy in the
community and make the organization less dependent upon a small
number of individuals.
2) I also feel there should be more continuity within the Board, and
would look to recommend a model that encourages longer-term service
by passionate Board members.
3) Classes of membership. I would push for the addition of other
membership classes, in particular, higher priced corporate
memberships to allow for increased revenue, sponsors for events,
another level of networking and the promotion of CM Pros within
relevant organizations. A tiered corporate membership model would
continue to build CM Pros and increase the scope of the organizations
activities, membership base, and publicity in the broader community
and allow CM Pros to expect practicing organizations to hold
membership of our professional body.
4) Most importantly, I would add my efforts to increasing the
vibrancy of our shared conversation on Content Management related
topics.
Working with the board and members to achieve these goals ...
On election, I would propose changes to the bylaws as follows ...
1) Increased the size of the Board, (2) Modify the election rules to
promote greater continuity, and (3) Propose a model for other classes
of membership (student and tiered corporate membership), all to be
put forward for consideration and a vote by the members. I would also
commit to working with the Board in the same energetic manner that I
have demonstrated within the CM Pros Australia Community (discussed
below).
Why members should vote ...
I am a capable, energetic and well qualified candidate who has led
the CM Pros Australia Community to great success in 2005 and 2006 and
would like to offer my services to the larger international CM Pros
community. CM Pros Australia Community was formed in September 2005,
in its first year, we held eleven (11) community meeting (8 in
Melbourne and 3 in Sydney, Australia) that were attended by 157
participants. We sponsored the 2006 Open Publish Conference in
Sydney. Australian CM Pros membership rose from 12 to 37 paid members
(double the rate of all CM Pros memberships), and membership of our
email list went from zero to 146 list members. As Co-Chair of the CM
Pros Australia Community, I have led our Steering Committee's drive
to promote Content Management in Australia and meet the broader
objectives of CM Pros within this part of the world.
