eZ publish (leading Open Source Enterprise CMS) is coming to
Australia to present the 2006 Asia Pacific eZ publish CMS Mini Expo

I am Tony from designIT and I have been busy organising this little Mini
Expo on the eZ publish Open Source CMS and the Open source movement. It will
be held in Sydney from December 7-8, 2006. I have managed to organise people
from within eZ Systems in Norway (the makers of eZ publish) to come over to
talk about their future directions and demonstrate their latest version.

Why?

Our feeling at designIT is that in the next few years, the CMS Market will
begin to consolidate from 140 products to only a couple of dozen major ones
or even less. Companies that have their home grown CMS or use lessor know
CMS's may find it more difficult in the near future to compete against web
companies that focus more on implementation and use of software from big
players such as eZ publish. The demand to put on an event like this gives
that feeling some weight.

designIT was a firm that used to build its own CMS. There was an enormous
R&D cost to keep pace with this market and the ROI was simply not there. We
made a brave decision in 2002 to abandon developing our own CMS and use an
established Open Source CMS using Open Source OS and Apps (Linux and MySQL)
We looked at all the CMS's in the market place and spent considerable effort
and cost in researching and selecting an viable option. That meant reading
materials, attending conferences and seminars, talking with people in the
industry. Back then, we had to fly to Norway to get the info that is being
presented in December on eZ publish. After all our research, we finally
decided to go down the eZ publish path.

eZ publish provides one platform for web publishing and e-commerce,
intranets and extranets, document management, photo galleries, forums and
blogs

-    It has over 150,000 installations world wide
-    It operates on Linux and MySQL
-    And has no licensing fee!

We can tell you that it was a great move for us.

The direction we took maybe something other web design companies would also
consider. Attending this mini-expo will give you an opportunity to take look
from this particular perspective.
